Livermore and
Glacier View Fire Departments Conduct Joint Training
As wildland fire dangers increase and volunteer fire department resources decrease nationwide, local mountain community fire departments are reaching out to provide support and assistance for neighboring districts. This collaborative effort was evident on Saturday, April 27, as Livermore and Glacier View fire departments launched a joint wildland refresher course for their members. Glacier View Fire Chief Greg Niswender, Livermore Assistant Chief of Operations Donn Maynard, and Livermore firefighter Mark Harrington planned and provided the annual refresher training to 15 Livermore and Glacier View firefighters. The three seasoned firefighters shared their extensive knowledge and expertise gained from local, State and Federal wildland fire responses.
Classroom training was held in the Glacier View Meadows Mountain Meeting Place and a field exercise was held in an area burned by the High Park Fire in Glacier View Meadows. Training of this nature expands the training capacities of each department and enhances the abilities of firefighters from the two districts to work effectively together during actual emergency responses. Continued joint training will support an agreement between Livermore and Glacier View to provide additional personnel and equipment for the responding department when needed.
